Seeking fall color wherever I can find it

In our neck of the woods the typical fall colors tend to be limited to various shades of yellow. But since I was up earlier than usual on this lovely day, I took a tour of our landscape and found surprising bits of other shades. Fall’s arrival used to fill me with gloom. But now I’m changing my tune.🎶

We try to steer clear of the mal'occhio (the "evil eye" that causes bad things to happen). But the same week of our little bumper mishap, a close friend told us about his own "contretemps." That's a fancy French word for problems that can arise when one is entering a parking lot at the same time when someone is exiting, but when one of you has the sun in his eyes.  One might say to oneself, as he did, "All I can really see right now is "niente," but what are the chances that anyone would approach during the second it will take me to cross this threshold? TOO MANY ???? (INSERT FRUIT OF THE MOMENT, HERE)

 In March, I put up a post called "ACRES OF PLUMS!:NOW WHAT?  Between last summer and this, while nobody was looking, the tree that supplied most of those gorgeous, rose-colored plums bit the dust. But not to worry. As you can see, the other plum tree, La Regina Claudia, with her yellow fruit beloved by so many Umbrians, went into overdrive. Here are this summer's royal plums, waiting for the Plum Fairy to wave her magic wand and do something with them....QUICKLY!   This is how they looked earlier, during their branch-busting phase. ON THE PERILS OF LACKING THE CONFIDENCE TO DRIVE BACKWARDS ON OUR 2-WAY ROAD THAT'S BARELY WIDE ENOUGH FOR ONE CAR

Perils? What perils? What could happen to a reluctant designated driver who gets palpitations at the idea of having to back up en route to home after her husband with the pinched nerve got his last pain shot?  Well, she could run into her best friend coming from the opposite direction on a piece of bumpy, curvy road barely wide enough for one car, and bordered on both sides by deep ditches.  Here's the situation. With J laid up and relegated to passenger-navigator/cheerleader status, that left me in the driver seat. So with him coaching me to "just stay on the road, dammit," when we saw another car approaching, he advised me as usual to stop and wait for the OTHER person to back up.   As I dutifully stood my ground and came to a halt, I was thinking how unfortunate it was for that other person to be caught in such a dilemma at such a spot.
